Tories behind transport cuts should leave party

-

A CHAIRMAN of the Campaign for Better Transport (Leicestershire), my main interest is in transport and here we share common ground with parents of special educational needs children and others.

In our case, it principally concerns the threats of cuts to socially necessary bus services, which continue and have been ongoing for some years.

I have, while attending a number of meetings over the years, heard councillors Ould, Rushton and Conservative colleagues complain about the totally unfair funding system which makes Leicestershire the worst-funded local authority in the country per head of population – much worse than other local authorities with similar circumstances.

Yet they continue to support the party which in government has perpetrated this totally unfair situation for the past 10 years.

Having given the Conservative Government 10 years to show some fair play, without success, surely they should now resign membership of the Conservative Party and stand as independents in the next elections.

This Government has had enough chances to show that fair play and has totally failed in that respect.

I think those county councillors who remain members of the Conservative Party should be considered guilty by association if and when such savage cuts are implemented.

Only by such drastic action, it seems, with this insensitive, arrogant, out-of-touch Government be brought to its senses.

Ah well, we live in hope.
