TRADERS are being encouraged to apply for spots at a market being built in the heart of Coalville.

Work on Newmarket started in January and will see the former Litten Tree pub in Marlborough Square transformed into a modern space with food stalls and an eating area, as well as traditional market stalls, pop-up traders and space for events.

North West Leicestershire District Council, which owns the current indoor market and is carrying out the transformation, is looking to attract a variety of food and non-food businesses on a range of leases.

Newmarket applications particularly desirable might include: fresh produce; unusual, recycled and fairtrade products; delicatessen, bakery or cheesemonger specialists.

The new market is expected to open in spring 2020.

Councillor Andrew Woodman said: “Work is progressing well and we’re looking for traders that want to bring a buzz to Coalville.”
