Fresh revelation brings Harry Dunn’s family more pain

-

THE outraged family of Harry Dunn has called for a public enquiry after it emerged the fugitive accused of killing the teen in a road accident was a CIA agent.

Following the revelation that suspect Anne Sacoolas had a more senior role with the agency than her spy husband, the 19-year-old’s parents say they have been “downright lied to” by the British Government.

Ministers and officials were said to be aware of the mother-of-three’s career in espionage, but she was not declared as an agent when she came to the UK alongside her intelligence officer husband, Jonathan.

The revelation she had been a CIA agent left Harry’s mother Charlotte Charles saying “things are now beginning to fall into place” as to why the US government was blocking her extradition to face justice.

Sacoolas’s right-hand drive Volvo is alleged to have been on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the teenager who was riding his motorcycle outside US military base RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on August 27 last year.

Mystery still surrounds the exact circumstances of how the Sacoolas family were able to flee in the days after the crash, but the US government claims they notified the Foreign Office that they were leaving.

In December, the American was charged over the fatal accident, and has apologised for Harry’s death, but US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has rejected the UK’s extradition request.

For a family that has thrown themselves into building relationships with the Government, they have been treated appallingly on both sides of the Atlantic.

The greatest shame, however, lies with Sacoolas.

Diplomatic immunity or not, what kind of human, let alone a mother, avoids the moral justice she needs to face?
