PICK OF THE DAY GRANTCHESTER ITV, 9pm

REBEL vicar Will and dour detective Geordie agree on one thing this week – there is nothing more terrifying than a nun.

Watch out for the steely glare of Sister Grace, played with relish by Tracy Ann Oberman.

She runs her convent with an iron fist, while the nuns scuttle around in absolute fear.

Will (Tom Brittney) and Geordie (Robson Green) meet her when they arrive to investigate their latest murder case. A woman has been found dead on Jesus Green, laid out in the shape of a crucifix. The ring on her finger proves she was married to God.

“She’s dead I take it?” says Sister Grace, referring to the dear departed Sister Eleanora.

“She’s the only one unaccounted for. It doesn’t take a genius. Sorry what were you hoping for? Weeping, wailing?”

When Geordie deduces that the nuns connect to a series of unsolved missing persons cases, it seems something sinister is afoot.

All credit to Will, who is dealing with the whole thing on a terrible hangover, having got very drunk and turned up at his parents’ posh dinner party.

He is dealing with feelings of guilt about the local boy kicked out of his family home.

And elsewhere, Leonard’s dad Russell arrives in town and it’s clear there’s no love lost between the father and son. But will Russell ever learn to accept his son for who he is?

The usual pacy plot and emotional turmoil from the series finale of the hit period drama.
