WHY CITY DIDN’T USE BREAK FOR TRAINING CAMP

RODGERS ON WHY HE DIDN’T TAKE SQUAD WARM-WEATHER TRAINING

-

BRENDAN Rodgers chose to give his City players a week’s holiday so they could get out of each other’s pockets.

Rodgers gave his squad seven days off after the 2-2 draw with Chelsea even though many Premier League clubs, including tonight’s opponents Wolves, took their players on a warm-weather training trip.

The City manager explained he wanted to break the cycle of the season and believes his players returned to Leicester fully refreshed.

“My decision was that the players see enough of each other, every day for long periods of the day, and large parts of the season,” Rodgers said.

“There are times in the season where you’ll take them away and have a four-day training camp, but for me the choice was to give them a total break, to go away with their families. They do a lot for their husbands as well, and they also need a break.

“We’re very much in each other’s pockets for the other months of the year, so it was nice to allow them to go away with their families, and spend some time together and then come back in.

“Others went away with friends, had a good rest and now they’re ready to work.

“There’s no doubt it was something that will benefit them. Just to break the cycle of football was important, with not just physical pressures but the mental pressures as well.

“It allowed them to go away and not think about football, come back and be refreshed for the final third of the season. They’ve all come back having enjoyed their time away, they’re all ready and have trained really well this week.”

Rodgers, too, spent time abroad, heading to the French Alps for his maiden ski holiday – where there was no danger of bumping into any of his players.

Rodgers said: “I fell over quite a lot but got there in the end. I had a sore knee and sore ankle a few times, but other than that it was good fun. “I will go again, I really enjoyed it. “It’s very difficult to do as a player, and actually, having experienced it, I certainly would not be letting any player do it because it certainly risks
