Long wait for fast food
IT’S still fast food, but McDonald’s customers are having to wait longer than usual to get their hands on it.
The drive-thru in Warwick Way, Loughborough, was among 15 in Leicestershire that reopened on Wednesday - and many people had clearly been missing their Big Macs.
Loughborough resident Jewel Miah said the queue from end to end was 35 minutes on Wednesday afternoon, but he was impressed with the organisation.
He said: “I found the experience quite good, actually.
“From ordering to receiving the food was 10 minutes.”
According to Mr Miah, there was a slight build up of traffic going into the Warwick Way McDonald’s.
There were long queues at the Fosse Park branch, but with no impact on surrounding roads. However, a build-up of traffic was reported in Wigston and in Abbey Lane, Leicester, as customers queued.
In addition to the drive-thrus, the McDonald’s branch in Market Street, Leicester, has opened, but for delivery only.
With social distancing rules restricting staff numbers, a limited menu is available, with no wraps, shakes or breakfast products on the menu.
Restaurants will operate from 11am until 10pm, and customers are asked to limit their spend to £25 and pay by contactless payment methods wherever possible.
There are perspex screens at drivethru windows and employees wear protective equipment.
