Knitting together to do their bit in crisis

- Frameworkknitters.co.uk

MERCURY readers are knitting blankets and donating wool to help three charities.

The Framework Knitters Company, in Leicester, is thrilled with the response to an appeal in the paper for knitters and donations of wool.

One of the co-ordinators, Liz Green, said: “Huge thanks to everyone who has contacted us and offered to either knit squares or donate wool.

“We are extremely grateful as this would not be possible without your support and we are delighted to be helping three charities including Action Homeless, based in Leicester.

“Our first blankets are being made and the photo shows squares knitted by Carole and May, two of our Cottage Homes residents who live near Oadby, and Pat, who is 95 years old, who sewed and crocheted the blanket – it looks fantastic!

“The knitting has given people a positive focus of helping others during lockdown and our knitters are clearly enjoying themselves.

“Some of our bursary award students have knitted for us and people from across the UK have been sending in squares. Please keep knitting as the more blankets we can make up the more people we can help, and blankets will be a great help to those in need, especially when the colder months arrive.”
