Tourism chiefs promote virtual visits
TOURISTS have been invited to discover a county digitally.
To mark English Tourism Week, the Discover Rutland Management Committee had a virtual meeting with MP Alicia Kearns to discuss how important the tourism industry is to the economy.
Jason Allen, chairman of Discover Rutland, said: “It was great to hear Alicia talk so passionately about tourism in Rutland and her plans to support us.
“It is important we all work together to strengthen the county and ensure the plethora of businesses which make this county great get the support they need.”
The team presented the Rutland, Steady, Cook campaign.
Nimble Media’s efforts saw county chefs release 44 recipes over 44 days, plus five Friday Night Cocktail recipes.
Discover Rutland is now sending virtual postcards encouraging potential visitors to Plan Now, Travel Later.
The postcards feature attractions, accommodation and food businesses from across the county, promoting “Much in Little” and reminding people what a beautiful destination Rutland is and the wide range or activities available across the county.
They also promote the live webcam feed of a Rutland osprey nest, virtual tours of Burghley House and looking through the visitor guide online.
The team also discussed with Rutland and Melton MP Ms Kearns their concerns and suggestions regarding social distancing in rural pubs and attractions, Covid grants, business rates and the reopening of weddings and corporate events, as well as a number of other key tourism issues.
A spokesman said Discover Rutland has produced a free downloadable package to help businesses prepare their premises.
