“It was devastating and terrifying. I was just trying to keep her safe.

“I was a bit numb. I went into survival mode and just took it one step at a time.

“I just thought, I’ve got to do what they tell me to do.” While pregnant with her daughter, Laura had a lumpectomy operation at Glenfield Hospital remove the tumour.

After the operation, Laura needed chemotherapy to treat the cancer, so she was induced and to gave birth to a healthy baby, whom she named Elodie – now three years old.

However, it did not end there, as, due to the chemotherapy, Laura could not breastfeed her newborn or look after her son Joseph, who is three years older. She was later told she had the BRCA2 gene, which meant she had a 50 per cent of getting cancer again, and so had a double mastectomy and had her ovaries removed. Throughout her pregnancy and treatment, she received support from Trekstock.

Because of Covid-19, the charity has found that its funding has all

Every day, 34 young adults face a cancer diagnosis and Trekstock supports them
