Evans ‘player of season by a mile’

LEICESTER City’s signing of centre-back Jonny Evans was “unbelievable business”, midfielder James Maddison has said.

Evans, pictured, arrived at the King Powwer Stadium from West Brom two years ago for £3.5 million, a deal City manager Brendan Rodgers has described as “the steal of the century”.

And it appears to be an opinion Maddison shares with the England international praising Evans on social media. Former City skipper and fellow centre-back Steve Walsh is also a big fan of Evans, and said the Northern Irishman was the club’s player of the season “by a mile”. Evans is likely to be in the running for the club award when voting opens later in the campaign, having been a rock-solid presence in what has been the third-best defence in the Premier League so far this season.

Jamie Vardy, in contention for the Golden Boot, will also be a favourite for the club’s player of the year prize, with Wilfred Ndidi, Caglar Soyuncu, and last season’s winner Ricardo Pereira also likely to get votes.
