Holly shows her enterprise skills to help the NHS

GIRL, NINE, SET OUT TO RAISE MONEY WITH CRAFT SHOP

- Hollyscrafts.co.uk

HOLLY Fennell has been busy helping the NHS. Here, in her own words is the story of how and why she has been raising money – with the help of some friends.

MY name is Holly and I have just turned nine and I go to the Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth.

I have been supporting the NHS/key workers every Thursday with my family as I think they are doing an amazing job!

I wanted to think of a way to show my gratitude so I decided to start selling some of my handmade crafts on my website, with all profits going to the NHS.

My parents also thought this would be a good home-schooling project for me.

I have had to use mathematics, English, art and design to build my online shop and work out all prices and wording on my website.

I do struggle a little with my maths sometimes but this has shown me how important it is to learn things that we aren’t always good at for when I am older, so I am trying even harder now to work on my maths. I have even learnt new things such as photography and digital marketing to help promote my items and shop. And all of this has been done on a computer, so it is helping my IT skills as well.

My initial target was to try to raise £500 but hopefully I can beat this target now (see update at end).

I still have to do my school work though (and I have some fun) so I am struggling a little to get new art bead creations made to sell.

I therefore had another idea and I was hoping that local children might be able to help me by donating their own bead art designs (and my popular rainbow key ring designs) and I can then sell them on my website.

I could even put their name and photo by their artwork on my website (only if they want to) and they could include a little note about why they love the NHS.

I can then sell this on my shop and send it to the customer that buys that design.

I have a Facebook page and an Instagram page so they could even upload photos of themselves making their artwork to help spread the message and try to raise as much money as possible.

Or they could help me further by selling them to their family members and friends and then donate the profit to my Just Giving page, again taking photos of the artwork and uploading it to my social media pages.

Update: Holly’s parents said: Holly’s original target was to raise £500 for the NHS.

I am pleased to say that she has raised just over £600 to date. She now has £1,000.00 in her sights.

She also asked for help from her school friends and her little sister Nancy and they have been amazing, helping her to make the rainbows and other items and also drumming up sales (Joel, Sophie, Olivia, Seb, Phoebe and Freddie).
