PEOPLE trying to book a covonavirus test online are now being asked to visit the NHS website.

After the government and Leicester City Council set up a temporary testing site at Spinney Hilll Park on Saturday, people were asked to firstly visit a government website to book a test.

But now the advice is to go directly to the NHS website, below.

The testing site in the park was set up in response to a spike in Covid-19 cases in parts of Leicester, including Spinney Hills.

In a letter to groups in the community, city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby has urged them to encourage people to get tested, while describing the rise in cases as “comparatively small”.

He said the mobile testing station would be at the site for five days and he would ask for that period to be extended, if necessary.

Anyone wishing to be tested can turn up at the mobile testing centre on foot to be given the equipment to take swabs from themselves or else book online beforehand.

The city mayor said people would not be turned away if they had not booked online.
