IN the second part of our series highlighting the work of photography students, we feature the work of fashion photographer Nikoletta Kutasi, who moved to Leicester from Hungary a decade ago.

Nikoletta is one of four students on the HNC Photography course at Leicester College who were going to host a joint exhibition of their work before it had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

The others are Sharon ClarkMonks (therapeutic photographer), Helen Kenny (documentary photography), and Ewelina SzrederPolitowska (fine art portraiture).

Helen’s work was featured in the Mercury on Friday, and the others will be shown over the next few days.

Sharon said: “We had planned to host our final exhibition, Vision, to showcase our work at the Wygston’s House Bar and Restaurant last month, but this was not able to go ahead.

“Although we can all still achieve a pass grade for our work, unless we can find an alternative way to display our work, we would not be able to achieve a merit or distinction grade.

“As you can appreciate, we are extremely saddened to not be able to have a final exhibit which we had all put a lot of effort into planning. It is not only us as photographers who feel disappointed, but our models, family, friends and lecturers too.

“This is the reason I have contacted you, hoping you will be able to help us showcase our final pieces of work in the Mercury and end our two-year course on a high.”

Nikoletta, who was born in 1984, is a Hungarian photographer who has lived in Leicester for 10 years.

Her interest in photography grew when she arrived in the UK and it is a passion that she has continued alongside a variety of jobs from factory work to now working in the care sector as a residential care worker for children.

In 2018, she joined the Leicester College part-time evening BTEC HNC Photography course where her interest in fashion photography developed.

Nikoletta says she enjoys photography as she loves dealing with people, whether on a fashion shoot or producing family portraits, weddings or special moments such as baby-showers and birthdays.

For this final project on the course, titled “A chance meeting”, she staged a fashion story based in the city centre, influenced by 1930s fashion photographer Martin Munkacsi, who is renowned for inventing the editorial style approach to fashion, saying: “Never pose your subjects. Let them move about naturally.”

Nikoletta uses a Canon 5D Mark III and is setting up as a freelance photographer. Contact her at:
