Get set for six sizzling days of summer

BE prepared to sizzle in six days of sunshine, as the Met Office predicts highs of 30C in parts of the county this week.

We could see the hottest day of the year this week, according to deputy chief meteorolog­ist Martin Young, “as hot air from the continent extends northwards across the UK.”

But he warned: “We’re keeping a close eye on the possibilit­y of severe thundersto­rms developing later next week too.”

Here’s what the week looks like:

■ Today: Highs of 27C. Lows of 16C. Dry with long sunny spells for most of the region and becoming very warm. Sunshine more hazy towards the northwest in the morning.

■ Tomorrow: Highs of 29C. Lows of 17C. Mostly dry, sunny and becoming hot, but an increasing chance of thundersto­rms.

■ Thursday: Highs of 29C. Lows of 17C. Dry and sunny throughout most of the day.

■ Friday: Highs of 28C. Lows of 15C. Mostly dry and sunny during the day with a small chance of rain.

■ Saturday: Highs of 22C. Lows of 14C. Slightly cooler but still remaining sunny and warm.

■ Sunday: Highs of 21C. Lows of 13C. Cooler but will remain sunny and mostly warm.
