STRIKE IT LUCKY (1986-1999)

-

Format: Three pairs of players advance across several screens answering general knowledge questions and trying not to let their greed stop them banking too many prizes while avoiding the hotspots.

STRIKE It Lucky was hosted by Michael Barrymore and his banter with the contestants was a big part of the show’s success.

When he was at the top of his game no one could touch him. Like Brucie, he was a performer who knew how to work an audience and he was actually the warm-up man for Are You Being Served? and The Generation Game when Larry Grayson hosted the show.

Barrymore became famous for his “Alwight?”catchphrase although admitted himself that Strike It Lucky was not much of a format.

However, the quiz ran for 13 years and was voted one of the top five UK game shows

of all time.
