A FILM and TV star from Barwell has married a Hollywood screenwriter at a ceremony in Las Vegas.

Adele Heather Taylor was hoping to tie the knot with sweetheart Roberto Orci, who has written for the Star Trek and Transformers films, at a church in Sutton Cheney.

The coronavirus lockdown thwarted their plans so the couple opted for an intimate ceremony without any guests in the very different location of the Entertainment Capital of the World.

Adele said: “After we’d realised getting married in England wasn’t going to be possible, we immediately thought - Vegas!

“It had more or less just opened up again and so we had our pick of any hotel or restaurants we wanted. It really was special.

“Our wedding was always going to be small, so it wasn’t too much of a change for it to be just us at our ceremony.

“On our way to our ceremony, we placed a bet on roulette using my grandad’s special number and we won. That was absolutely a sign that we had chosen the right place to get married.”

Actress and screenwriter Adele has appeared in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! and in CBS detective series Hawaii Five-0.

The couple hope to throw a wedding party next time they are in England. Their original venue for the wedding was St James’ Church, Sutton Cheney, where Richard III reputedly had his last mass before his death in the Battle of Bosworth.

Adele said: “I’ve always loved that church. I took my now husband there a few years back to visit and he thought it was exquisite.

“We have been together romantically for four years, but met 11 years ago when I moved to Los Angeles.

“A close friend of mine was Harrison Ford’s personal assistant on a film that Roberto wrote and produced.”

That film was Cowboys and Aliens, starring Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde.

Adele studied at William Bradford Community College, Earl Shilton, training from a young age as a professional dancer and discovering a talent for acting in her late teens.

She then enrolled at the Leicester College of Performing Arts and finished with a trinity diploma in musical theatre.

She has also worked behind the camera, producing the short film The Other Side, in which she starred with Sons of Anarchy actor Josh Wingate.

Her latest role is in an episode of crime thriller series The Blacklist, playing a character who gets roped into an extortion scheme.

The episode is called Nyle Hatcher and is episode 16 of series seven.

She was flown to New York for the filming.

She said: “Luckily, we were able to film my episode before the virus hit New York, as they shut down filming only two weeks later. Next, I will be working as a voiceover artist on an upcoming animation show.”

Roberto was born in Mexico City but has lived in the USA since he was eight. He has worked in Hollywood for 25 years.

The newlyweds have co-written a screenplay and are currently working on a television project.
