EXPECTING SHOCKS?

Thriller about obsessive mum-to-be who strikes up a friendship with pregnant blogger telegraphs its twists, but is still edge-of-the-seat television

- With Sara Wallis

DOWNTON’S Laura Carmichael stars in this Australian psychological thriller about two women hiding big secrets. Blogger Meghan, played by Jessica De Gouw, is expecting her third child, but her husband Jack (Michael Dorman) seems less than thrilled by the idea.

Their marriage is already struggling, the baby is referred to as their “oops baby”, and Jack doesn’t seem to be remotely interested in Meghan anymore.

Plus he’s never there, always working late, the usual red flags for ‘this man is up to no good’.

Meanwhile, in seemingly unrelated news, Agatha (Carmichael) is also heavily pregnant, with her first child.

Agatha’s life couldn’t be more different from Meghan’s. Unlike Meghan, who lives in a nice house in the suburbs, she is strapped for cash and could only dream of Meghan’s affluent lifestyle.

Agatha is ignoring phone calls from her mum and the father of the baby isn’t remotely interested, so there are family issues there.

The two women bump into each other in the local supermarket where Agatha works and they strike up a conversation. Of course they’re both pregnant, so that’s an instant friendship in TV terms.

But their lives are about to collide in much more dramatic fashion than an innocent conversation about nappies.

The plot twists are well signposted – it doesn’t take a genius to clock that Agatha has a slightly odd interest in Meghan, whose life appears perfect to her.

But this is still a gripping thriller that you will want to see play out.
