THE 100 CLUB

‘Legend’ Vardy reaches his Premier League landmark - and adds 101st for good measure!

-

‘HE HAS FOuNd A REAL HOME HERE’: Jamie Vardy was presented with a silver fox to mark his 100th Premier League goal after the Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium on Saturday accomplishment that would not have been possible if Vardy had not turned down Arsenal in 2016.

Other high-profile players have departed, while Vardy’s teammates, most notably Ben Chilwell, are now being linked with transfers away, but for Rodgers, the number nine has shown record-setting feats can be achieved while at the King Power Stadium.

“It’s hard to knock some players if they want to move on, their careers are so short but Jamie has obviously felt really comfortable here,” said Rodgers.

“He has found a real home here, he’s adored by the supporters. They absolutely love him and he’s gone on and hit this milestone and I’m sure he will continue to create a wonderful legacy at this club.

“But it’s all individual choice, people want to move on, all clubs will lose players. But he is an example that if you decide to stay you can still continue to grow and develop.”

There is now a question over the number of goals Vardy can reach. He is 33, but still has two years left on his contract, and Rodgers will continue to try to help him improve.

“As it currently stands, he’s a legend now for the rest of his time at the club, it’s just about what he adds to that status over the remainder of his career,” said the boss.

“I find Jamie unique in his journey, but as a player I have probably got him when he’s not so wild. He’s a lot more sensible now, he’s a father and settled and happily married and everything else, so I’ve got him at probably a really good time in his life.

“But what he is, he is very coachable. He understands the game so well and he always wants to learn more about the game. So tactically he’s very good. He’s an absolute joy to work with. That type I love because they want to improve and Jamie wants to be better.”

“There’s no doubt he’s not got the same miles on the clock as some other players at this level. You see his fitness, you see his speed.

“If you look after your body and you prepare well, then it gives you every chance.”
