Man and woman assaulted

-

A WOMAN and a man were assaulted during disorder in a market town at the weekend.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault on the man in Market Harborough on Saturday night.

Police are trawling CCTV footage for clues as to who assaulted the woman in the town on the same night.

Officers implemented a dispersal order between 11pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday to help cope with the trouble which flared after the pubs reopened for the first time since the end of March.

There were a number of incidents on the High Street and police ordered a number of people to leave the area.

Some pubs closed early on the so-called “Super Saturday”.

Police and Harborough District Council licensing officers visited pubs to inspect and follow-up on any issues that were raised.

A police spokesman said: “Following a number of incidents of low level public disorder reported in the town centre on Saturday evening, a Section 34 Dispersal Order was authorised, giving officers the power to require people to leave the area to reduce the risk of causing harassment alarm or distress to the community and to reduce the risk of any further public disorder.

“The order was in place between 11pm on Saturday and 7am yesterday. Working with local licensees, once the order was put in place the majority of those gathered left the area peacefully.
