Why wasn’t lockdown enforced originally?

-

THE mayor has said Leicester needs to get lockdown “sorted” so we can join the rest of the country in “liberation” (Leicester Mercury, July 4). This should have been done originally, during the first spike.

As leader of the city council, surely the mayor should have taken control to ensure the people of the city were safe?

Now we have police, city wardens, parks personnel out and about in lockdown areas, plus train stations and the main exit roads from the city.

Why didn’t we have these restrictions in place originally, so that cricket matches, parties, music gatherings and the like couldn’t have taken place and the rules flouted?

Covid numbers were always going to rise. Shame on the mayor for ignoring the numbers.
