A POINT TAKEN BUT WILL IT PROVE ENOUGH?

VARDY GRABS A LATE DRAW FOR CITY, BUT THEY SLIP TO FOURTH AS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIGHT HOTS UP

-

LEICESTER City will be looking nervously over their shoulder again with their top-four cushion potentially cut to a perilous one point this week.

City drew 1-1 with Arsenal last night, Jamie Vardy netting late on to rescue a point and move four points clear of Manchester United in fifth.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s in-form Red Devils play relegation battlers Aston Villa tomorrow, knowing victory will move them to within just a point of Brendan Rodgers’ men.

City had already slipped down to fourth by kick-off, following Chelsea’s early evening win over Crystal Palace, and were unable to end their 47-year winless run away to the Gunners.

City, trailing 1-0 since the midway point of the first half, were thrown a lifeline when Arsenal went down to 10 men, Eddie Nketiah seeing red on 75 minutes for a rash challenge on James Justin.

City boss Brendan Rodgers was happy enough with the point, telling Sky Sports afterwards: “It is good for us (the draw). Arsenal have been on a run but we have come here after a tough game at the weekend and played well. It gives us confidence to continue with this mindset.

“Second half I thought we were outstanding. 11 v 11 we were the better team after the break. I was pleased with how they managed 11 v 10 because it is never easy. We got the deserved goal. We will take the point and it could be very important for us.”

City now have four games remaining to hold on to their top-four spot, starting with a trip to struggling Bournemouth on Sunday evening before Sheffield United at home, Tottenham away and a potential Champions League decider against Manchester United at the King Power Stadium on the final day.
