Learning the language can help avoid racism

-

I AM sure many may find what I have to say controversial but...

Isn’t learning the language of the country you choose to live in not part of a declaration to show you have moved there to integrate, make that country a multi-cultural success and help build a life where racism, inequality and so on is stamped out and not encouraged? As part of the Leicester lockdown, it was reported the government has provided money to Leicester for Covid-19 guidance in what was referred to as “appropiate languages”.

Could this not be seen as the sort of thing that helps fan the ugly flames of racism?

How far do we go for equal rights, integration or adding to/avoiding potential issues?

Will the communities of those areas requiring “appropriate language” guidance spend their money on ensuring translations are provided in the language of their host country so that jobs, shops, businesses etc in those communities are equally accessible to all and not just those that speak those “appropiate lanquages?”

How far do we go in our so-called quest for equality etc for all of us, not just parts of our society.
