Soyuncu will learn lesson from ‘lack of discipline’, says Rodgers
BRENDAN Rodgers has spoken with Caglar Soyuncu and is convinced the Leicester City centre-back will learn from his “lack of discipline” at Bournemouth, writes Jordan
Blackwell.
Soyuncu’s retaliation, a kick-out at Callum Wilson, has proven costly for City, not only at the Vitality Stadium, where Rodgers’ side fell to a 4-1 defeat, but also for the rest of the season, with the Turk suspended for the crucial final three games.
Rodgers believes Soyuncu’s red card was not indicative of the 24-year-old and is sure he will learn a lesson.
“I’ve spoken with him,” Rodgers said yesterday. “It was a lack of discipline we don’t want within the team.
“In fairness to Cags, how he’s managed his temperament, because of the type of defender he is, he’s been first class all season. So that was something I didn’t see coming, and I think for him as well. He was pushed into the net, and I think it was just a reaction as opposed to a behaviour that you see a lot.
“He controls his emotions very well in the game, because I ask him to be aggressive, and on the front foot.
“It was one of those things that cost us but he’ll learn from it. He’s been outstanding this season, and he’ll learn going forward.”
Rodgers also believes the rest of the squad will also use the defeat to the Cherries as a learning experience. He said: “We don’t want that performance to affect these final three games. I believe it won’t. I think it will be the reverse.”
