MORE city and county schools have confirmed coronavirus cases, meaning pupils will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Pupils at Fosse Primary School, Leicester, are thought to have come into close contact with someone at the school who has the virus.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Richard Stone said Public Health England had confirmed “a single case of Covid-19 within the school”.

Pupils in years three and four are self-isolating as a result.

Year one pupils at Kirby Muxloe Primary School have all been told to stay off for the next two weeks after a staff member was confirmed as having the virus.

A “very small number” of pupils from another year group at the 400-pupil school are also isolating at home, the school said.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Elliot Howles, said: “In this situation the confirmed case affects one of our members of staff rather than one of our children.

“We have no way of knowing where transmission occurred but I am satisfied that our processes in school are as robust as is practicable.”

Pupils at both The Market Bosworth School and Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form will be home schooling for the next fortnight after confirmed cases.

The Market Bosworth School’s principal, Stuart Wilson, wished the student who had tested positive a “speedy recovery”, adding: “I would like to thank all parents for their support.

“I realise we are all feeling uncertain and anxious about what the coming months will bring, but I hope we can work together to provide the stability of school life wherever safely possible.”

The head of Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form praised the pupils’ reaction to hearing they would be sent home for two weeks.

Azizah Pathan said: “We were so impressed by the maturity of our students.

“When we explained to some that they were being asked to self-isolate they remained calm and co-operative.”

More than 50 city and county schools have so far confirmed cases, leading to thousands of children being sent home to self-isolate.

Pupils at some of the schools were returning yesterday after self-isolating for two weeks.

Parents have been asked by both the city and county councils to wear a mask when dropping off and collecting children on the advice of public health bosses.
