£160k to clear graffiti
CITY HAD SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER OF INCIDENTS LAST YEAR, AND THE SEVENTH HIGHEST CLEAN-UP BILL
LEICESTER City Council spent more than £160,000 on removing graffiti last year.
The authority received reports of 16,144 incidents in 2019 – the second highest total of 200 local authorities surveyed.
The findings were uncovered in a Freedom of Information Act request by the company Structural Repairs.
Councils were asked to provide the exact number of graffiti incidents as well as the net total of how much it cost to remove them.
The total number of incidents in Leicester was only surpassed by Hackney, which had 29,236 reported incidents.
The amount spent on the removal graffiti by Leicester City Council – £160,321 – was the seventh highest among those councils that responded.
Out of 381 councils that were contacted, 200 provided the number of graffiti incidents, while 113 councils provided the amount spent on graffiti removal.
