Boy, 16, is arrested for assaulting 999 officer

A BOY of 16 has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer after a fight in a village park.

The teenager was detained after police were called by residents to a report of a fight involving a group of youths in Sileby Memorial Park on Monday.

Another 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with head injuries following the incident shortly before 3.45pm. He was later discharged.

Police were granted a crime dispersal order, which allows officers to tell people to leave an area and to not return for a specified time period.

The order covered the area of The Banks leading to Ratcliffe Road, Barrow Road, leading to Cossington Road and King Street, leading to Seagrave Road and the adjoining streets, and was in force until 4.45pm on Tuesday.

A Leicesters­hire Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 3.45pm (Monday, October 19) we received a report of a fight taking place in Sileby

Memorial Park. When police arrived, some youths who were believed to have been involved became aggressive towards officers.

“A 16-year-old boy was subsequent­ly arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. He has since been released on bail and inquiries are ongoing.

“One youth – a boy – was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries. He has since been discharged.

“Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call 101.

“As a result of the disorder, a dispersal order under Section 35 of the Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 was put into place.

“The order was in place until 4.45pm today (Tuesday).”
