Watson kicks off tournament series with victory
THE opening event of the new series of open tournaments at The Nottinghamshire GC, organised by Golfing Days, the Leicestershire specialist golf and travel company, was a big success.
There was a competitive field of more than 100.
This was the first of six such events throughout the next few months. There are also similar competitions at several other venues. These will be getting under way shortly.
Golf professionals and amateurs came from across the country, but there was success for some county competitors – pros and amateurs – on the final leaderboard. Nick Watson (Stoke Rochford) finished first with 40 pts from his 4-under-par round, after a tie with runner-up Nick Wilhelm-Marklew.
There were two pros on 39 pts, Fraser Hall and Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre), with five on 38 including Riyaz Ahmed (The Leicestershire) and Olly Booth (Golfing Days).
The others on the mark were amateurs Charlie Blakeman (Hinckley) and Adam Redpath (Kedleston Park), and pro James Freeman (Retford).
Chris Pickett (Newark) on 37 pts completed the top 10.
