MP welcomes business aid

-

MP Alberto Costa has welcomed the level of government support provided to business in his constituency since the pandemic began.

Businesses in South Leicestershire have received more than £100 million worth of loans since the start of the outbreak, new figures show.

This included 2,112 Bounce Back Loans worth more than £63 million to small firms, and 154 business assistance loans worth almost £39 million.

Mr Costa said: “It goes without saying this year has been hugely challenging for businesses in South Leicestershire, but these latest figures demonstrate the scale of support the government has put in place to protect livelihoods and businesses. Of course, the next few months will be crucial for many businesses across the country, but the government remains committed to ensuring everyone has the support and assistance they need to get through this most difficult time.”

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said: “Our support for businesses and workers has provided a lifeline to employers up and down the country, supporting people to stay in jobs and protecting livelihoods.

“We will build on this as we move to the next stage of our recovery through the Winter Economy Plan, which will continue to protect jobs and help businesses through the months ahead.”
