LIDL has announced it will open a new supermarket in the county early next month.

The store in Harborough Road, Oadby, will open its doors on Thursday, November 5.

It forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans across the UK and has created about 40 jobs for the local community.

It will have an in-store bakery, longer-style tills, customer toilets and baby changing facilities.

Andrew Hodgkinson, Lidl GB’s regional head of property, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Oadby.

“It is great we have been able to bring our sixth store to Leicester and create even more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

The store will be open from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

It will also provide surplus food and donations to Perfectly Edible UK CIC, to be used to address food poverty through food parcels and a community café and to Masjid e Bilal, who distributes donated food to those less fortunate.
