Game boys answer call to play for good cause

CHARITY ISSUES CHALLENGE TO RAISE MONEY AT THE CONSOLE

- By STAFF REPORTER dogsforgood.org

BROTHERS who love gaming have taken up a challenge to play for a good cause.

Assistance charity Dogs for Good has issued a Gaming for Good fundraising challenge for October.

Participants are sponsored for playing whatever game and console they most enjoy, alone or as a team.

Brothers Ryan, 10, and Jason, eight, from Harborough, raised £310 when they took part in a previous Gaming for Good event in August.

They completed a 24-hour gaming session over two days.

Ryan mostly played Pokemon Go, while Jason played Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Lego City, Minecraft and Roblox.

Their five-year-old sister Sammy helped by preparing snacks and drinks.

Jason has ADHD and also suffers from anxiety, bolting behaviour and has a lack of road safety awareness.

Mum Hayley said: “The boys were excited to take part in this challenge and they had so much fun.

“I’m very proud that they managed it because 24 hours is a long time to play video games.

“They enjoyed every minute, including all the snacks and drinks.

with dogs.”

Dogs for Good has been matching people with disabilities and dogs for over 30 years.

Trained dogs support people with autism, physical disabilities, learning disabilities and dementia. Spokeswoman Stephanie Lawless said: “With so many of our fundexpertly trained raising activities cancelled this year, we need people’s help more than ever.

“We’d love you to take a moment to pause from your usual routine to have fun with friends and family virtually and raise some money to help support us.

“We know that online gaming isn’t for everyone, but for those who enjoy it, playing online games is a great way to challenge yourself and your friends while raising funds for Dogs for Good.”

Parents are urged to refer to the charity’s Safety Guide before children begin.
