Prime Minister pays visit to university Covid test centre
PRIME Minister Boris Johnson visited Leicester yesterday to see first-hand a new kind of testing facility.
The NHS Test and Trace site has been opened at The Watershed, part of the campus at De Montfort University.
Students will be invited to volunteer to be tested using a new lateral flow antigen test which may tell if they have Covid before they begin to show symptoms.
This would better enable the Government to identify asymptomatic cases who are at high likelihood of spreading the virus.
This could then minimise disruption for those who test negative.
Mr Johnson spent time with NHS professionals and university officials who are asking students and staff to volunteer. Small numbers have been invited to be tested initially.
