Work on walk-in Covid testing centre to begin

WORK on a walk-in test centre will start in the car park of Blaby District Council’s headquarters later this week.

The appointment-only site will be in the village for at least the next six months, providing testing for residents.

The centre, at the authority’s offices on Desford Road, Narborough, will operate from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week and offer vital testing capacity locally.

As tests are offered by appointment only, the number of people on the site at any one time is always limited.

Work will begin on site in the next few days and the test centre is expected to be up and running on Friday, November 20.

Council leader Terry Richardson said: “This will make it even easier for anyone who thinks they have symptoms to get a test done locally, avoiding the need to travel large distances.

“We’re pleased it is being set up. Testing is a vital part of helping to get this virus under control and making sure we’re protecting the people we know and love.”

Last week, Leicestershire’s director of public health said he was convinced the area would have been made subject to tier 2 restrictions, had the second national lockdown not been introduced.

Anyone with symptoms should call 119 to book a test or go to:
