MORE new coronaviru­s cases than ever before were added to totals across the city and county yesterday.

There were 957 cases confirmed in the city and county in the past 24 hours - on the same day the UK’s total increased by a record amount to 33,470. A massive 445 cases were added to totals in Leicester, with a further 512 detected across the rest of county.

Broken down to district and borough level, there were 158 cases in Charnwood, 101 in North West Leicesters­hire and 96 in Blaby.

Hinckley and Bosworth’s rolling toll increased by 76, Harborough added 67 new cases and a further 55 cases were added in Oadby and Wigston. Positive results were returned to 50 people in Melton.

The total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic are: Leicester: 13,374

Blaby: 2,281 Charnwood: 4,899 Harborough: 1,491 Hinckley and Bosworth: 1,961 Melton: 839

North West Leicesters­hire: 1,614 Oadby and Wigston: 1,798
