Could City really defy odds and lift the title again?

EX-PREMIER LEAGUE STARS TIP FOXES FOR GLORY

-

FORMER Premier League striker Dimitar Berbatov has predicted there could be surprise champions this season, with Leicester City possibly lifting their second title in five years, writes Amie Wil

City currently sit at the top of the Premier League table going into the second international break of the season, ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Foxes have climbed to the top despite injuries to key players including Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi, Caglar Soyuncu and Timothy Castagne.

The international break could provide the chance for some to step up their recovery ahead of the clash against Liverpool.

And Berbatov thinks that another title shock could be on the cards this season.

“This season’s title race is going to be unpredictable,” he told Betfair. “Look at where City are, there’s a good chance that something unexpected will happen this season.

“Leicester are top and there could be another against-all-odds story brewing here. I’m sure a lot of people would like to see a story like that again.

“The big thing, though, is that with so many games, teams will need to know how to spread their resources throughout the season and get their priorities straight.

“The one that keeps their team freshest throughout the season will be the winner.

“Hopefully, Leicester will keep up with the tempo and so will Southampton, who are doing really well and going under the radar with the same record as Spurs and Liverpool.

“There’s a long way to go and we’ve already seen plenty of ups and downs. Aston Villa were first then suffered two defeats before bouncing back with a brilliant win at Arsenal.

“Everton were flying in first and then lost three in a row. If you want to stay top, you need consistency.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara also believes that City will have a say in the title race, even though Liverpool and Manchester City are favourites.

“It is not a two-horse race, in my opinion, there is more than that,” he said on TalkSPORT.

“Spurs are in there, you still have to put Chelsea in there and you have to put Leicester in there. You can’t not put them teams in there.

“Leicester are playing fantastic, if they can keep the squad and [Jamie] Vardy fit they have got the squad.

“Spurs arguably have got the best front three at the moment with [Gareth] Bale, [Harry] Kane and [Heung-Min] Son who are unbelievable. It is not a two-horse race at all in my opinion, this season the league is wide open.”
