THERE are just days to go until the LeicestershireLive Education Awards are handed – albeit digitally – to some of the region’s most inspirational schools, further education colleges and the individuals that comprise them.

The ceremony, which will be broadcast live on our website on Wednesday, November 25 at 7pm, will see winners chosen in categories such as Inspirational Teacher of the Year, Student of the Year and School of the Year.

The Beating the Odds award, which is sponsored by Braunstone Frith Primary School, will recognise students who have overcome adversity or shown outstanding bravery and maturity for their years.

Amelia Smith, pictured, head teacher at Braunstone Frith Primary School, explains why they’re backing the Beating the Odds category.

She said: “We are a strong and caring community and staff work hard to enable each child to be a better version of themselves than they thought they could be.

“Our motto is ‘positive thinkers and LiFE-long learners’.

“Everyone who has been entered for this award has shown that they are also a ‘positive thinker and LiFElong learner’.

“This takes courage and determination which is to be celebrated and why we have chosen to support this award.”

Mrs Smith went on to say: “Braunstone Frith Primary School is a really exciting place to be. We are proud to be part of LiFE Multi-Academy Trust and share learning with Bosworth Academy, The Winstanley School, Countesthorpe Academy and Kingsway Primary”.

“At Braunstone Frith, the children are at the heart of all that we do. We provide a challenging and successful curriculum that reflects LiFE in the 21st century.

“Our staff have high expectations of what all our children can achieve. We encourage creativity and embed learning i through a spiral i l curricui lum that ensures learning and skills are built upon and developed.

“We model to our children honesty, good manners and respect. We ensure every child has a voice and we inspire and encourage a spirit of self-belief.”

The awards ceremony, hosted by Des Coleman, will be streamed live on LeicestershireLive - the online version of the Mercury - and the evening will feature special guests and prize giveaways.
