NIGELLA’S COOK, EAT, REPEAT
BBC 2, 8pm
NIGELLA says she wants to celebrate her pleasure palace, and who are we to argue? FYI, she means her kitchen.
As this seductive series continues, the glamorous chef makes more delicious treats that laugh in the face of the obesity crisis.
First up is her chocolate peanut butter celebration cake, which she guarantees is stress-free and simple to make.
She gently whisks a wedge of butter, sugar, cocoa and more sugar to make a glossy batter.
Then it’s on to the filling, mixing butter, icing sugar and a ton of peanut butter with a decent serving of double cream.
“I’m creating a beautiful monster,” she purrs. “It’s so pale and creamy and voluminous! Give yourself up to it.”
“It doesn’t have to be perfect,” she adds, slathering buttercream all over her cake.
Later on, there are vegetables to roast, with a splash of orange juice.
This at least is not as controversial as her curried banana skins or mashed fish fingers of previous episodes.
Complete with bulgar wheat and a pink sauce – a combo of Greek yoghurt (full fat) and beetroot – this is the dish you make for friends who are always late, she says.
Finally, there’s a fascinating insight into Nigella’s life when she reveals she owns a massive vanity case dedicated to liquorice.
She carefully selects something from this box of sweets to make her cheesecake with liquorice sauce – another dish to die for.
A captivating series made to make your mouth water.
