Police inquiry as body is found in city house
FORENSICS OFFICERS IN PROPERTY ALL DAY OVER ‘UNEXPLAINED’ DEATH
A HOUSE in a city street has been sealed off by police after the body of a man was found inside.
Officers were called to the home in Abbey Court Road, off Abbey Lane, not far from the National Space Centre, on Tuesday night.
Emergency services, including an ambulance crew, attended the incident shortly after 9pm.
The death is being treated as unexplained, with forensic officers returning to the property yesterday morning to continue an examination of the scene.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that a body had been found at the address and that inquiries were continuing to determine the circumstances.
One resident in the street, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “My wife went to open the blinds and noticed an ambulance and a police car outside the property.
“Police sealed off the house and were conducting house-to-house inquiries in the street.”
He added: “They asked me if I knew the person who lived there and I said I had only spoken to say hello on the odd occasion.
“There was a police presence there all night and a team of forensic officers turned up at about 10.30am.”
The forensic team were still at the address yesterday afternoon, when the man’s body was eventually removed from the house.
Several bags were also seen to be taken away from the property.
Neighbours have also reported a power cut in the street yesterday, with engineers from Western Power Distribution later seen digging up part of the road outside the house

A spokeswoman for the electricity distribution company said: “We were called on to isolate the electricity supply to a property in Abbey Court Road, Leicester.
“There was a brief interruption to the power supply of customers in the street which lasted for about half-an-hour.”
The power company spokeswoman would not say who asked for the electricity supply to the property to be isolated, or give details as to the reason why it was necessary.
The resident who contacted the Mecury added: “It’s certainly a shock to learn that a man’s body has been found.
“It’s also a little unnerving until we know a bit more about what has happened – it’s only a small cul-desac – although an officer told us it was nothing for people in the neighbourhood to worry about.”
