FORMER Leicester City player Matt Piper has taken on the role of ambassador for Leicester Children’s Holidays.

The charity based at Highcross, Leicester, which helps vulnerable children enjoy a break from difficult lives, has been forced to postpone fund-raising, cancel its summer holiday breaks and put on hold the pre-Christmas launch of a toys range.

Manager Nicky Kandola said: “Matt will be a great ambassador for us during this crucial time for our charity.

“We need this boost to help us recover from the disappointment of postponing the launch of our toys range.

“It was due for launch on November 10 and we have postponed it until December 2 or until the latest lockdown is lifted.”

Matt had been supporting Leicester Children’s Holidays in recent months. He volunteered to wrap Christmas gifts in return for a donation last year.

In the spring he auctioned off a pair of Jamie Vardy’s orange football boots to raise money.

Nicky said: “He really understands the value of the holidays we offer and the massive difference they make to children’s lives.

“We hope our supporters will buy our toys once our Highcross shop is open again. All profits support our cause.”

Matt said: “I am thrilled and proud to join Leicester Children’s Holidays as its ambassador.

“I can’t wait to spend more time with the charity team and meet some of the children.

“The charity goes back 122 years and has always done great work helping disadvantaged and vulnerable children across the region.

“They need our support more than ever and I am honoured to play my part.”

Leicester Children’s Holidays offers free respite breaks for children who live in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and may face difficult circumstances at home.

The youngsters may live in a lowincome family, have suffered a bereavement, be a child carer looking after a parent or sibling, or need a break for a host of other reasons.
