‘I’m my own biggest critic so I’ll never say I’m at 100 per cent’

WHEN Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans were asked this month which of their Leicester City teammates watched back their own highlights the most, they were in agreement that the answer was obvious: it’s James Maddison.

But rather than reliving his moments of class, City’s number 10 is in fact poring over his performances to see where he can improve.

Maddison has said that he often gets frustrated watching his games back as he critiques each and every action.

But it’s all with self-improvement in mind, and the 24-year-old reckons he has “gears to go” as he looks to reach top form following injuries over the summer and earlier in the season.

“I’m my own biggest critic, so I’ll never say I’m at 100 per cent,” he said ahead of tonight’s Europa League tie against Braga.

“I’m definitely fitter. Ninety minutes against Liverpool will do me the world of good fitness-wise. “There’s still more to come from me definitely. I’m my own biggest critic, so I want to be scoring goals and getting assists and getting my numbers up as always. “The team has been doing well, which is always a positive.

“I’ll just keep trying to play to the highest level I can and there’s definitely still gears to go.

“I’m hard on myself. I watch games back and get frustrated sometimes because of some things I do, but I’ll also be happy with other stuff I do. I don’t think I’ll ever be fully satisfied with my form because of the type of person I am.

“I’ll keep continuing to try to do my best for the team and produce quality moments as regularly as I can.”

More quality moments against Braga tonight could seal qualification to the knockout stages for City.

However, Maddison is expecting the Portuguese side to be fired up after City’s 4-0 victory over them at the King Power Stadium.

“They are probably a lot better than what they showed at the King Power,” he said.

“We saw some talented players in our analysis. We’ll prepare no differently.

“We’ve got a job to do. Going away in Europe is never easy. We’ll prepare like every other game.

“We’ll be prepared for Braga to come out flying, especially after the scoreline at the King Power Stadium.”
