13 men sentenced for part in gang clashes

FIGHTS IN PARK AND SHOPPING CENTRE WITH ONE STABBED

THIRTEEN men have been sentenced to a total of more than 51 years in jail after a series of clashes between rival gangs ended in a man being stabbed 13 times in a Leicester Park.

The rivals fought in the Highcross shopping centre and Bede Park, in the city’s West End, on the same day – April 30, 2015.

Two were convicted of attempted murder, as reported in the Mercury this week, while two others were found not guilty of all charges. The outcomes for the defendants – all from Leicester unless stated – were:

■ Liban Yaryare, 22: Found guilty of attempted murder relating to the Bede Park assault, conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Lower Brown Street and violent disorder in Shires Lane. Jailed for 21 years and six months.

■ Khalid Hassan, 24: Found guilty of attempted murder relating to the Bede Park assault and conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. 13 years.

■ Abass Hudur, 26: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. Not guilty of attempted murder relating to the Bede Park assault. Three years.

■ Khalid Abdirahim, 23: Guilty of violent disorder in Shires Lane and conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Lower Brown Street.

Not guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park. 12 months.

■ Soubane Ismail, 23: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. Three years.

■ Anwar Mire, 22: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. Three years.

■ Ahmed Abdullahi, 25: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. Three years.

■ Yahaya Osman, 22: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park and in Lower Brown Street. Four years.

■ Joel Adu-Bosompem, 25, of Tottenham, London: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park. Not guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Lower

Brown Street. Two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The following were dealt with at earlier hearings:

■ Lydon D’Costa, 23: Pleaded guilty on February 26, 2018 to affray in Lower Brown Street. Nine months in jail, suspended for 15 months.

■ Goncalo Teixeira, 22: Pleaded guilty on March 27, 2018 to conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, conspiracy to commit violent disorder and affray in Lower Brown Street and possessing an offensive weapon in Lower Brown Street. 27 months.

■ Sakariye Garane, 24: Pleaded guilty on May 18, 2018 to affray in Lower Brown Street and conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park. Two years.

In February 2019, the following verdicts were delivered by a jury at Leicester Crown Court:

■ Sharmarke Yaryare, 26: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park. 25 months.

■ Anthony Oluwaseyi Ekundayo, 26: Guilty of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park. 24 months.

In April 2019, following verdicts by a jury at Leicester Crown Court, the following were all given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months

■ Abdullah Imran, 20: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede

Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Ahmad Sayam Hakimi, 23: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Alfred Yimbo, 24: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Aslam Sakha, 21: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Jermain Derek Emmanuel Felix, 26: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Wilfred Yimbo, 24: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

■ Vahees Nagulespar­an, 20: Conspiracy to commit violent disorder in Bede Park, violent disorder in Shires Lane.

He was also convicted of jury interferen­ce and was sentenced to five days in prison.

Those who stood trial in May 2018 and were found not guilty of all charges were: Mahad Ahmed, 23, and Mozes Banjo, 23, of Leicester.

Detailed addresses were not given by police due to “operationa­l reasons”.
