PLAYER RATINGS v SPORTING BRAGA

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL:

Produced a number of fine saves, including one unorthodox stop after his own mistake, to keep Braga out as they dominated at the end of the first half. His distribution wasn’t great, but without him, City wouldn’t have got the draw. 8/10

JAMES JUSTIN: He was everywhere. Playing the first half on the right of the back three and the second half on the left, he didn’t limit himself to defensive duties. However, he didn’t really influence proceedings at either end. 6/10

JONNY EVANS: Produced a few big tackles and headers as he pushed up to try to pen Braga in, and was composed in his short passes. 6/10

CHRISTIAN FUCHS: Rightly substituted at the break. Missed several tackles as he routinely lunged in, allowing Braga to attack the space. He wasn’t quick enough to stick to his man either, while his more audacious passes were poor. 4/10

MARC ALBRIGHTON: When needed, Albrighton came up trumps with a trademark cross to the back post for the late equaliser. Worked hard as usual before then, but looks a different player with Vardy to work with. 7/10

HAMZA CHOUDHURY: Hustled and bustled and stuck his foot in, but did not influence the game as he did in the home fixture with Braga. Looked more comfortable alongside Tielemans. 6/10

DENNIS PRAET: Tasked with dropping deep to play the Tielemans role, Praet was anonymous. He barely touched the ball and did not get into the right areas to take control of the game. His poorest performance in some time. 4/10

LUKE THOMAS: What a moment for the young lad from Syston, getting into a dangerous area and adjusting his feet well to open his account for the club. Crossed well throughout, too, although he was caught too high at certain points. 8/10

CENGIZ UNDER: Dropped deep to collect the ball, but often frustrated with it by running into trouble or giving it away. Still, he was a threat in attack and was denied three times by Matheus. Although he required more composure for his one big chance. 6/10

HARVEY BARNES: A nice instinctive finish with his weaker left foot means he’s reached four goals after 13 games, rather than the 25 it took him last season. He is getting better in front of goal. 7/10

KELECHI IHEANACHO: Pressed well to create City’s best chances of the first half, showing neat footwork for the first goal, too. Linked nicely when Vardy came on, but the chances did not fall his way this time. 7/10

SUBSTITUTES

WESLEY FOFANA: Brilliant in the way he carried the ball out from the back, even winning a free-kick 20 yards out in one attack. But naive to dive in during the build-up to Braga’s third goal. 6/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: Dictated the game after his half-time introduction, playing the right pass at the right time to get City back into the match and stop Braga dominating. 8/10

JAMES MADDISON: His body feints throw off defenders brilliantly, as his shimmying for Thomas’s goal showed. Moved the ball well, including at the death to beat his man and spread the ball to Albrighton. 8/10

JAMIE VARDY: When City needed someone to find the net, who else would they call upon? But it was not just his last-minute finish, Vardy was a threat in his running, a nuisance in his pressing and superb in his general play. 9/10

AYOZE PEREZ: Linked well with Vardy and nipped at the heels of the Braga defenders in a rare outing. Didn’t do himself any harm if he wants more game-time. 6/10
