300 more infections in county and city
MORE than 300 new coronavirus cases were reported across Leicester and Leicestershire yesterday.
The Department of Health and Social Care DHSC updated the daily totals of new infections.
Across the country, 33,364 new Covid-19 cases had been reported in the last 24 hours.
In Leicester, there were 114 new cases and 202 in Leicestershire.
Charnwood recorded 51 new infections with 42 in Harborough.
Hinckley and Bosworth recorded 32 new cases and 27 in North West Leicestershire.
There were 24 cases in Oadby and Wigston and 17 in Blaby with just a single-figure increase in Melton of nine.
The new cases, updated yesterday at 4pm, mean the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are:
Leicester: 20,263
Blaby: 3,734
Charnwood: 7,129 Harborough: 2,463
Hinckley and Bosworth: 2,971 Melton: 1,419
North West Leicestershire: 2,739 Oadby and Wigston: 2,917
Leicester and Leicestershire’s public health directors have urged people to be extra disciplined about social distancing, regularly washing hands and covering faces.
They have warned a mutant highly infectious strain of Covid-19, that has led to a surge in infections in the South East and East of England and London, was likely already present here in small numbers of cases.
The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:
Leicester: 287.7 cases per 100,000 Blaby: 221.6 cases per 100,000 Charnwood: 175.9 cases per 100,000 Harborough: 152.2 cases per 100,000
Hinckley and Bosworth: 168.8 cases per 100,000
Melton: 183.6 cases per 100,000 North West Leicestershire: 149.6 cases per 100,000
Oadby and Wigston: 263.1 cases.
