THE team at Fosse Park, together with Blaby District Council, has announced the launch of a sculpture trail that will see locally-designed, life-size fox models dotted around the retail park, as well as at nearby tourist attractions.

The Fosse Foxes Trail will launch as part of the opening of the Fosse Park West and Food Central developments due to take place early this year.

The trail will feature 45 foxes, sculpted in fibreglass, 10 of them painted by artists who submitted their designs as part of a competition which received more than 100 submissions.

Entrants were asked what Leicester

means to them and how it inspired their design.

One successful applicant, Bethan Griffiths, submitted a display of purple, white and green shades on her fox design, inspired by female empowerment and the work of suffragette Alice Hawkins.

Other winning designs address themes including mental health, environment and cultural diversity.

Several of the foxes will be painted by Pickle Illustration, which has worked with community groups to represent the culture, heritage and landscape of the area.

These will be dotted around Fosse

Park, with the remainder, designed to reflect tourist attractions, extending the trail into the wider area.

A map of the trail will allow visitors to spot the foxes and QR codes will enable them to find out more about the artist and the story behind the fox.

The foxes at tourist attractions will have further information on those sites and encourage visitors to explore the rest of the district, as part

of Blaby District Council’s tourism initiative.

Fosse Foxes helps to mark the retail park’s £168 million transformation, which will see the addition of Food Central and Fosse Park West.

The redevelopment will create 40 per cent extra retail and restaurant space.

The sculpture trail has received funding from Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.
