Club’s most creative player is top of the charts in Super Lig

-

LEICESTER City winger Rachid Ghezzal has enjoyed a revival of his fortunes on loan at Besiktas, writes Jordan Blackwell.

The Algerian has provided eight assists in his 11 outings for the Turkish club, putting him top of the charts in the Super Lig, and ranking him among the most creative players in Europe.

It also means he has registered more assists than City’s four wingers combined, with Harvey Barnes, Ayoze Perez, Cengiz Under, and Marc Albrighton having racked up six between them this season.

With eight wins from the 11 league games Ghezzal has played, Besiktas have jumped to the top of the table as they chase their first Turkish title since 2017.

“For the moment everything is going very well,” Ghezzal said.

“Our team is good and our coach and his assistants have been very close to me and have shown their trust since the day I came. That’s why I thank them.

“I try to do my best on the pitch to contribute. I get the chance to play regularly and we are in a good position in the league. I hope we continue like this.”

Ghezzal’s 12 starts across all competitions for Besiktas eclipses the number he made on loan at Fiorentina last season, with most of his games for the Italian side coming off the bench.

But he has admitted he wanted to remain in Florence, only for Fiorentina and City to fail to do a deal.

“I would like to have stayed in Fiorentina,” he said.

“However, now I am only focused on Besiktas. I hope I win the championship with this team.”
