Third man arrested over post office raid
POLICE have arrested a third man in connection with an armed robbery at the St Matthew’s Post Office in Leicester.
Officers detained a 35-year-old man on Tuesday night in relation to the raid at the post office in Malabar Road on Monday morning.
The man, from Leicester, is in custody.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery on Tuesday morning.
These men, both from Leicester, remain in custody.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about the raid to contact them.
Officers were called to the post office in Malabar Road shortly after 9.30am, following a report that staff had been threatened by men carrying knives and that cash was taken from a drawer.
Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the force’s complex investigation team, said: “We have arrested people in connection with this incident and I hope that will provide some reassurance.
“However, our inquiries are still very much continuing and we would ask anyone who believes they have information about the incident – but has not yet contacted police – to do so.”
