Crews rescue 10 from burning block of flats

FLAMES burst from the fourth floor of a building in Leicester while people were trapped inside.

Firefighte­rs were called to the scene at Watkin Road on Tuesday after the fire broke out on the ground level of the block of flats.

A number of residents reported they were trapped inside as the blaze spread to the fourth floor of the building.

Leicesters­hire Fire and Rescue Service said 10 people were rescued and others inside the burning building were given survival guidance over the phone to help them stop smoke entering their homes.

Fire crews from Central, Eastern and Western Stations were in attendance. No one is believed to be seriously injured.

An investigat­ion into the cause of the blaze will be carried out.
