Parking chargers extended

-

A DOZEN electric car charging points are to be installed across a district.

North West Leicestershire District Council successfully applied for a grant of £45,000 from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), with support from the Energy Saving Trust (EST).

Four charging points will be installed this spring in Vicarage Street in Whitwick, The Green in Thringstone and Clapgun Street, Castle Donington

There will also be four charging points at the Whitwick and Coalville leisure centre, being built off Stephenson Way.

Ashby has four charging points which were installed by the district council when North Street car park was renovated and extended in 2018.

Councillor Andrew Woodman said: “We have set ourselves ambitious zero carbon targets and there is no time to waste.

“If our towns and villages have charging points it will encourage people to buy electric cars and use them locally, which in turn will lead to more charging points.”
