3 million steps to a better future for young people

-

EMPLOYEES from the Utilita Energy Hub in Leicester completed a total of 3 million steps last month to raise money for The Prince’s Trust.

The gas and electricity supplier said it is working with the charity to help young people develop the confidence and skills needed to move into work, education and training.

Five staff from Leicester clocked up on average 20,000 steps per day – double their daily target – throughout February.

They were among 20 teams and 12 individuals from across the Utilita business who took part in Future Steps, raising nearly £3,500.

Sean Silvera, leader of the Future

Steps team in Leicester, said: “Young people are suffering from a disrupted education and weakened labour market due to the impact of the pandemic on the economy.

“Recent research from The Prince’s Trust found young people felt the pandemic had destroyed their career hopes.

“There’s therefore never been a more crucial time than now to support the younger generation, which is why we’ve been working with The Prince’s Trust to do all we can to support it, including taking part in Future Steps powered by Utilita.”

Laura Heaton, head of employee engagement at The Prince’s Trust, said: “Young people are among the hardest hit by the pandemic and need support now more than ever, so they do not lose hope for the future.

“We are enormously grateful to committed partners like Utilita and its staff for supporting The Prince’s Trust.”
