Man and boy deny murder

-

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy from Leicester and a 28-year-old man have appeared in court where they denied the murder of a pensioner.

The body of Donald Ralph, 83, pictured, was discovered at his home in Aldham, near Colchester in Essex, in December. He had been strangled.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, entered his plea in person at Ipswich Crown Court.

Judge Martyn Levett entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Snook, who was not present for the hearing.

The defendants are jointly charged with the burglary of Mr

Ralph’s home in Halstead Road, Aldham, on December 28, when they are alleged to have stolen a Browning shotgun, a Ruger rifle and keys to a vehicle.

They are also jointly charged with theft of a Volvo car belonging to Mr Ralph on the same date.

Snook is charged alone with possession of a bladed article in a public place.

That charge relates to an alleged incident in Colchester High Street, in Essex.

The defendants are due to go on trial on Tuesday, June 1.

In the meantime, the court heard this week that there will be an administrative hearing held on Tuesday, May 4.
