-

QUARRYING company Bardon Aggregates and the National Lottery have helped an allotment society plant more than 70 trees.

A total of £19,000 was awarded – and more than 70 trees have been planted so far in Greenhill, Castle Rock, Coalville East and Broom Leys.

Michael Wyatt, chairman of Broom Leys Allotment Society, said: “I wanted to improve our local environment, so planting trees is a quick and easy way to help our wildlife.

“It’s a great way to help cut our carbon footprint.

“My target is to plant more than 100 trees and 1,000 spring bulbs, which will be a great start in making our area cleaner and greener.”
